yoga nidra feels like a productive power nap
reboot and balance your nervous system
yoga nidra is a fully guided, systematic technique that nurtures you into the hypnagogic state, the threshold between wakefulness and sleep. this state of consciousness is known as “yogic sleep,” and when properly guided, it feels like a splendid power nap that also offers profound restorative benefits.
soothe the mind through the body
the body scan is the heart of yoga nidra. it brings you out of your thinking mind and anchors you in physical awareness.
this precise rotation of consciousness follows the path of the somatosensory cortex to induce autonomic relaxation. by bringing awareness to the most innervated body parts, we stimulate the brain from within, clear neural pathways, and forge connections between brain circuits and the extended nervous system.
plant new seeds to rewire old habits
past thoughts, behaviors, and experiences leave impressions in our subconscious, known as samskaras, that shape our habits and perspectives. the hypnagogic state accesses your relaxed subconscious, which is potent soil for planting a Sankalpa, or positive intention. This affirmative inception allows us to rewire thought patterns from the inside out, addressing stress and unwholesome states at their core.
a disciplined mind is a powerful mind
meditation is not about controlling your thoughts
it’s about being aware of where your attention is directed, and redirecting your attention to a desired point of focus. this can be your breath, your body, a sensation, a sound, or awareness itself. when the mind inevitably wanders, your task is to gently guide it back. meditating is the practice of redirecting your thoughts, feelings, and awareness, not rejecting them.
it’s really a balance of concentration and surrender. the longer your concentration is sustained, the more you will surrender into the present moment. that’s the part that feels like a dreamy bliss. over time, this builds greater mental discipline, deepens your meditative state, and brings more peace and clarity into your life and purpose.
i’ve been meditating for 10+ years
i was introduced to mindfulness meditation in 2015. however, i didn’t realize the power of meditation until 2017, through deliberate experimentation with my daily practice. by meticulously tracking my sessions and moods, i gathered personal data that demonstrated a profound impact on my wellbeing, officially turning my curiosity into a sincere devotion. my interest evolved into an exploration of its many forms, from kundalini kriya to Buddhism to yoga nidra.
my reflections are rooted in more than a thousand days of consecutive practice, and each sit gets sweeter and sweeter. i believe that meditation is magic for the soul and it is a gift that keeps on giving. with a sincere practice and right effort, the benefits truly never end.
